We live in a world full of beautiful, unique bodies, and, considering that around half of the population has breasts, it’s a world full of unique boob shapes too! Now, there’s never a need to compare and contrast because your beauty lies in your singularity, but knowing your breast shape can help you identify what bra will offer you the best support. That’s where the boob shapes chart comes in handy!
Whether you’ve got small boobs or large breasts, your titties will fall into one (or more!) of the 9 different types of boob shapes we will be discussing today. Since this is all for the sake of generalization, your breasts might not look exactly like any of the examples in our boob shapes chart. That’s completely okay! I’ll help you figure out how to identify which is the closest to your one-of-a-kind boobies so that you can find the best hemp bra to suit your specific needs!
IDENTIFYING YOUR BREAST SHAPE
Before we can start giving love to all the different boob shapes, let’s get you familiar with your own ta-tas! Don’t worry, this part is fun. The first step is to let those ladies loose from whatever prison you’ve got them in. Ah, much better.
Now that you’re as free as you should be, march your pretty self over to a mirror. When you’re done being distracted over how hot you are, focus your attention on your breasts. Take them in from all angles. Look at how they rest on your chest. Take note of the shape and size of each breast and the placement of your nipples. Turn to the side and take in the view from there too.
Once you’ve become fully familiar with how your breasts look, take another peep at the boob shapes chart and see if there’s a shape that you can identify as similar to your own. If you’re not too sure at this point or you’re stuck between a few different options, don’t worry. We are going to be discussing each of the nine breast shapes in detail to help you reach a more solid conclusion.
NIPPLES COMES IN ALL SHAPES AND SIZES TOO
Guess what? Your nipples are also unique to you. Even if you have a similar breast shape as tsomeone else, your nipples might be astronomically different! And that’s great! The shape and size of your nipples don’t really have any bearing on your breast shape so I’m not going to linger on them for too long. However, here are some common nipple variations just for fun:
- Asymmetrical: As with breast sizes, nipples are often sisters and not twins. That’s completely normal and common.
- Large Areola: Your areolas may be naturally small or large and they can change during pregnancy or other hormonal shifts.
- Bumpy: You might notice little bumps called tubercles on your areola during hormonal changes, pregnancy, and if you have blocked glands.
- Inverted: This means nipples that don’t stick out and retract into the breast tissue.
- Everted: This is the opposite of inverted and signifies always erect nipples.
- Hairy: You might find a hair or two on your areola. That’s totally normal. Just rip those suckers out with some tweezers or let them fly free.
- Raised: Some nipples are a little rounder and puffier than others.
TYPES OF BOOBS SHAPES
Now that you’ve become more acquainted with your own breasts, I’m going to break down the 9 different shapes from the boob shapes chart. As an added bonus, I’ll be sharing which of our WAMA hemp bralettes is ideal for your breast shape. Let’s get right to it!
1. RELAXED
Relaxed breasts tend to hang rather than stand proudly on your chest. They're relaxed, just chilling, lucky them! This boob shape is also often associated with nipples that point down. The breast tissue will also be fuller at the top of this breast type and slimmer at the bottom.
RECOMMENDED BRA TYPE
The relaxed boob shape is most common in larger bust sizes so your ideal bra option would be the racerback bralette . It has a thick, supportive band at the bottom which will hold up your breasts nicely and allow the fullness at the top to really shine with some spectacular cleavage.
2. ROUND
Round breasts are equally full at the top and bottom and tend to stand at attention on your chest. The nipples might rest at the center or off to the side. Round breasts tend to be firmer and less likely to droop.
RECOMMENDED BRA TYPE
Round breasts don’t require any extra shaping or much support. A triangle bralette will become your go-to bra if you have round breasts. It’s cute and comfy and will keep your boobies in place without compressing or lifting them, thus allowing their natural perkiness to do its thing.
3. SIDE SET
Side-set breasts rest on your chest with a noticeable space in between. They are often full and almost resemble round boobs, with nipples that rest in the center, as well as minimal drooping.
RECOMMENDED BRA TYPE
A racerback bralette is the best option for your side-set boobies because the single-panel design will help bring them together. The durable hemp fabric and strong elastic will work together to hold your breasts up and give them a little oomph.
4. SLENDER
A slender breast shape signifies boobs that are thinner than they are wide. This doesn’t necessarily mean that your boobs have to be small to classify as slender breasts. Large breasts can also be slender, they’ll just likely be longer. Regardless of their size, they probably won’t cover your entire chest since they’re often not as full.
RECOMMENDED BRA TYPE
This type of titty just requires a comfy place to hang out so it can really shine. The triangle bralette is perfect for giving a little bit of lift and keeping the girls upright in their designated spots.
5. ASSYMETRIC
Spoiler alert: no one really has completely symmetrical breasts. Of course, the difference is not always noticeable and breasts can appear symmetrical. And on the other end of the spectrum, sometimes the size difference is noticeable. Either way, asymmetry is totally normal and common!
That said, your asymmetrical boobies will likely also fall into other categories on the boob shapes chart so be sure to take a thorough look!
RECOMMENDED BRA TYPE
No matter what size your asymmetrical boobies are, a racerback bralette will help support them. The lack of distinct separation between the two breasts will also help them appear more even (not that they need to be, let those sisters be different!).
6. ATHLETIC
Athletic boobs have nothing to do with how much exercise or movement you have in your life. The name just refers to breasts that appear more muscular because they have less breast tissue. This boob type is common in smaller breast sizes.
RECOMMENDED BRA TYPE
Your athletic breasts will love the triangle bralette because it will keep them in place while allowing them to rest as they naturally please.
7. BELL
Bell-shaped boobs look just like the name suggests. They are thinner at the top, fuller at the bottom, and tend to be a little droopy. This droop is also because bell-shaped boobs are associated with larger breast sizes.
RECOMMENDED BRA TYPE
If you’ve got bell-shaped boobs, you’ll probably need a little extra support. Luckily, an underwire monstrosity is not your only option because the racerback bralette is a great bralette for large bust sizes!
8. EAST WEST
As the name suggests, east-west boobs are two ladies going in opposite directions with the nipples in control of the navigation. They tend to be wide set with a noticeable gap in the center of your chest.
RECOMMENDED BRA TYPE
East-west girls just need a little reminder that they’re friends and have no need to run away from one another. The racerback bralette will help get them reacquainted with one another in the intimate setting of a single-paneled bra.
9. TEAR DROP
Tear-drop boobs lie somewhere in between round boobs and bell-shaped boobs. They’re round at the bottom but less full on top than round breasts. They also tend to be less droopy than bell-shaped breasts.
RECOMMENDED BRA TYPE
Since these ladies have enough shape and fullness already, the triangle bralette is excellent for accentuating their natural look. It will keep you tucked in and make your breasts look even fuller.
FACTORS THAT DETERMINE YOUR BREAST SHAPES
The major deciding factor in which boob shape you have is genetics. However, there are other lifestyle factors and natural changes that can affect the shape of your breasts.
- Weight: Changes in your diet that result in weight fluctuations will also affect your breast size. That’s because gaining or losing weight accumulates or burns off fat cells located in your boobs (and everywhere else in your body).
- Exercise: You can’t actually change the size of your breasts with exercise (well, they can shrink as you burn off fat) but you can increase the size of your pecs through focus exercises which will make your breasts appear firmer.
- Menopause: Menopause causes mammary glands to decrease in size and the breast tissue to lose strength and elasticity which makes breasts softer and saggier.
- Pregnancy: Pregnancy causes many natural changes to your body and your breasts get the bulk of it. They can become more tender and increase dramatically in size, especially postpartum if you start breastfeeding.
WHY BREASTS SHAPES CHANGE OVERTIME
All of the above factors can lead your breasts to look different over time. They might become less perky, get a little softer, and begin to make their gravitational descent toward your hips. All of that is normal!
CONCLUSION: LOVE FOR ALL THE DIFFERENT BREAST SHAPES
No matter where you find yourself on the boob shapes chart, your titties (and all the rest of you) are perfect just as they are. Comparison is always a deadly game and this post is not meant to have you thinking your boob shape is less than ideal. Because there is no ideal!
I would even encourage you to take my bra suggestions at a base level. Your boobs don’t need to be shaped or maneuvered in any way to make them look more “appealing” (because that’s all a bunch of patriarchal nonsense anyway). Your comfort and happiness should always be the priority and that’s the main point of this post!
Did you know what your boob shape was before reading this post? Are you maybe unsure if any of these shapes apply to you? Share your thoughts in the comments and give your titties a loving squeeze, just cause you can.
